Biofuel dismisses La Lorgnette rivals

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Biofuel, Canada's co-champion 2-year-old filly last year, overcame a slow pace with a powerful wide rally to capture the for 3-year-old fillies at Woodbine Sunday.

Biofuel ($2.60) trailed the seven-horse field on the backstretch, while Moment of Majesty and Witch's Coven vied through splits of 25.34 and 50.21 seconds in the mile and a sixteenth route.

Biofuel commenced her bid at the three-eighths pole, and she overtook Ernfold with a sixteenth left en route to a one-length win, in a time of 1:45.49. Moment of Majesty finished another two lengths in arrears, while nosing out Empire Song for third.

Eurico Da Silva rode Biofuel for trainer Reade Baker and owner Brereton Jones, who was in attendance.

"I was very confident that I was riding the best horse in the race," said Da Silva. "There was no pace, and I was asking her to be patient. When I made my move, she just blew them up. She's a great horse."
