Bim Bam wins by a head in Lord Juban

Email

MIAMI - Bim Bam survived a late run from longshot Saint Jude to post a popular head victory in Saturday's $55,000 Lord Juban at Calder.

Bim Bam, the only graded stakes winner in the field, rated in midpack as Omar's Tiger set lightning-fast fractions of 22.71 seconds, 45.88, and 1:09.82 over a turf course rated good following several days of rain. Bim Bam engaged the tiring leader inside the eighth pole, gradually forged to command, and then was fully extended to withstand Saint Jude. The latter, last after the opening half-mile of the one-mile Lord Juban, angled out while rallying into the stretch and appeared poised to overtake Bim Bam near the wire only to hang at the end.

The previously undefeated Tannersville finished third, another 1 1/4 lengths behind Saint Jude. He was followed by Mr. Rico, the tiring Omar's Tiger, a disappointing Bernie the Maestro, Sky Venture, and Flatter This.

Bim Bam is trained by David Brownlee for owner-breeder J D Farms. He covered the distance in 1:35.48 and paid $3.80.
