Big weekend for O'Brien

Aidan O'Brien completed a memorable double as Imagine landed the Irish 1000 Guineas a day after Black Minnaloushe had led an O'Brien sweep of the first three places in the Irish 2000 Guineas.

Meanwhile, Fantastic Light added to the weekend's dramatics at the Curragh when he defeated Golden Snake and Kalanisi in the Tattersalls Gold Cup.

The powerful O'Brien stable had been off to a slow start this year, due largely to the inclement weather which had disrupted the training schedules of so many Irish yards. In Imagine, he now has himself the favorite for the English Oaks.

In winning the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, Fantastic Light spoiled the seasonal debut of American turf champion Kalanisi as well as making up for his narrow defeat to Stay Gold in the Dubai Sheema Classic.

Fantastic Light will now be aimed at Royal Ascot for the Prince of Wales's Stakes, a race won last year by his former Godolphin stablemate, Dubai Millennium.

Elsewhere, British invader Morshdi took the Group 1 Derby Italiano in Rome by 2 -3/4 lengths from Falbrav. In Tokyo, Kent Desormeaux finished fourth aboard Born King in the Japanese Derby, which went to the Tony Bin colt Jungle Pocket.
