ARCADIA, Calif. – The summer racing season in California will not be the same without Big John B, the veteran marathon specialist who has been sidelined with a hind-end issue. Trainer Phil D’Amato said Big John B, the winner of the Grade 3, 1 1/2-mile Tokyo City last month at Santa Anita in addition to three graded stakes at Del Mar, will be out until the fall. D’Amato said Big John B was injured in a routine gallop at Santa Anita. A 7-year-old, Big John B has won 15 races and $849,770 from 40 starts. He won the Grade 2 Del Mar Handicap in each of the past two summers. “You won’t see him until October or November,” D’Amato said, adding that, “you haven’t seen the last of him.”
