Big Hubie takes Louisiana Downs Handicap

Bossier City, La. - Dream Walkin' Farms' Big Hubie, who just missed in the Barksdale Handicap here on September after lacking room in midstretch, got a clean trip under Tim Doocy to win Sunday's $100,000 Louisiana Downs Handicap. Dynameaux, making his first start since a poor effort in the Fair Grounds Breeders' Cup in February, finished a game second, only a head behind Big Hubie. Barksdale winner Rebridled turned in a late run to report home third. Favored Chauffe Au Rouge, who disappointed in the Barksdale, once again was found lacking in the late going and finished fifth.

Claimed by trainer Kenny Smith for a $25,000 tag at Arlington Park almost a year ago to the day, Big Hubie ($6.80) returned to the races the latter part of May and annexed an optional claiming affair at Lone Star Park. The 4-year-old son of Boone's Mill then won another optional claiming event here on August 3 before his runner up performance in the Barksdale. He covered the mile and a sixteenth in a time of 1:42.21 over a firm course and won for the seventh time in 17 starts and for the first time in stakes company.

Sunday's winner's share of $60,000 increased his career bankroll to just over $181,000.
