Big Drama sizzles in BC Sprint move

Big Drama had the track clockers at Calder raving after working four furlongs in 46.40 seconds and galloping out five-eighths in 58.40 over his home course with jockey Eibar Coa aboard on Saturday in his final prep for the Breeders’ Cup Sprint.

“He was unbelievable,” said Calder clocker Joe Savage. “The track was not that fast, there was a pretty strong headwind blowing up the stretch and he just did it easily.”

Both Coa and trainer David Fawkes were equally pleased with the move.

“He’s ready, he’s very happy right now,” said Coa. “He went fast but was working very comfortable.”

“It didn’t look like he was doing anything, it looked like he went in 48 and change, not 46 and change the way Eibar just sat perched there,” said Fawkes. “This is the best place in America to get a horse ready for a race like this and I couldn’t be happier with him.”

Big Drama will be among the favorites in the Sprint coming off a pair of second-place finishes in Grade 1 races. He is scheduled to fly from Miami to Louisville on Monday evening.
