Biamonte runners one-two in Frost King

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - The Ralph Biamonte-trained duo of Citius and Altius ran one-two in the $127,000 Frost King Stakes on Wednesday night at Woodbine.

Citius ($21.20) won his maiden in the seven-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds, after rallying inside from last under apprentice Omar Moreno. He split horses in mid-stretch, and then hit the front nearing the sixteenth pole en route to a head victory, in a time of 1:23.37.

Altius, who pressed favored Bear’s Peak on the lead through fractions of 23.05 and 45.68 seconds, ended up a neck in front of the third horse, Curgone. Bear’s Peak weakened to finish a close seventh in the tightly-bunched 10-horse field.

“[Citius] kind of sucked himself back,” said Moreno. “The trainer said he tends to do that sometimes, and to just let him relax and stay where he feels comfortable. Coming out of the turn, there was an opening on the inside, so I took it. He was really competitive, and that got us the win.”
