Bh Lisas Boy wins second Grade 1 stakes with Vessels Maturity

Bh Lisas Boy remained unbeaten in 2017, and won his second Grade 1 stakes, in Sunday’s $162,000 Vessels Maturity at 400 yards at Los Alamitos.

The win confirmed Bh Lisas Boy’s status as the leading older Quarter Horse in California. The long-range goal for the 5-year-old Bh Lisas Boy is the $750,000 Champion of Champions at Los Alamitos on Dec. 16.

In the Vessels Maturity, Bh Lisas Boy ($2.60) trailed early leader The Charm of Corona by a half-length after 100 yards and rallied brilliantly to lead at the finish by a nose. The Charm of Corona, a 29-1 outsider, finished a neck in front of 9-1 Jess Ravin in the field of 10.

Zoomin for Spuds, the winner of the 2016 Champion of Champions, finished ninth after bumping with a rival early in the race.

Bh Lisas Boy ran 400 yards in 19.53 seconds.

Owned and trained by Bill Hoburg, Bh Lisas Boy has won 15 of 25 starts and earned $406,698.
