Beyers say Finger Lakes stakes is wide-open

Based on Beyer Speed Figures, very little separates the top five 2-year-old fillies in Saturday's $50,000 Finger Lakes Juvenile Fillies Stakes.

Gator Prowl - the track's morning-line favorite at 8-5 - second choice Winning Image at 2-1, Rules R Rules, J Z's Revenge, and Too Tough to Smile all show top Beyers in the narrow range between 67 and 69.

A forecast that calls for a mixture of rain and wet snow in western New York could benefit two fillies with good off-track pedigrees.

Rules R Rules is a half-sister to Jim's Mistake and Eagle Peak, who combined to go 8 for 23 over wet tracks.

In addition, Rules R Rules cuts back from a route to a sprint, an angle that has produced a 4-for-11 (36 percent) hit rate with 2-year-olds for trainer Mike Gorham.

The locally based Too Tough to Smile came from off the pace to easily defeat six rivals in her career debut. That race came over a track rated good, and she is a full sister to Too Tough Pete, who was 2 for 3 in the mud.

Winning Image ships in from Suffolk Downs for the six-furlong Juvenile Fillies after winning her first two races by a combined margin of more than 17 lengths.

J Z's Revenge looks dangerous after winning her maiden at Saratoga for trainer Steve Asmussen, who shows a 12-for-34 (35 percent) record with 2-year-old maiden winners returning after a brief layoff in an ungraded stakes.

Gator Prowl has been dominant in a pair of short sprints, but will be racing beyond five furlongs for the first time.
