Bevys Best named top older Nebraska-bred

Bevys Best, a three-time stakes winner last year from five starts, was named top older Nebraska-bred of 2008 at last weekend's awards dinner sponsored by the Nebraska Thoroughbred Breeders Association.

Bevys Best, trained by Larry Staroscik for owner Tim Munson De Pascua, captured the Ogataul and Budweiser-Tondi stakes at Fonner and the Amadevil Stakes at Columbus.

Other division winners were Dazzling Izzy, 2-year-old filly; Watomgo, 2-year-old colt; three-time stakes winner Deputy's Whirl, 3-year-old filly; String of Diamonds, winner of the Skunktail Stakes at Horsemen's Park and the Special Stakes at Columbus, 3-year-old; and two-time stakes winner Dazzling Seville, older mare.

Bevy Anne, the dam of Bevys Best, was honored as top broodmare. Bevy Anne has had four foals race and they are all stakes winners. She is owned by F. William Karrer.

Blumin Affair was named top stallion for the sixth straight year. He led all Nebraska stallions with $925,749 in progeny earnings in 2008 for his owners, Blumin Partners.

The Blood-Horse magazine breeder of the year award went to Marv Johnson, and the Nebraska Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association award went to David Anderson.
