With the Beverly Lewis Stakes having been postponed, the only stakes Saturday at Los Alamitos is the E.B. Johnston. Soi Phet (above) and Magic Mark are the likely favorites.

CYPRESS, Calif. - The $75,000 Beverly Lewis Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Los Alamitos was scheduled to be run Saturday but did not draw sufficient entries on Wednesday and has been postponed. Los Alamitos may try to bring it back for Sunday.

The race had 15 nominations, but only four fillies had reportedly been entered when the decision was made to scrap the race. If the race is held on Sunday, it will fill a void on the track’s calendar. No stakes was originally scheduled for Sunday.

The presence of the undefeated Enola Gray no doubt kept some fillies from being entered for the Beverly Lewis Stakes. Enola Gray has won two stakes for California-breds and was scheduled to have her first start against open company in the Lewis Stakes, at six furlongs.

Saturday’s program is led by the $75,000 E.B. Johnston Stakes for California-bred milers. The field will include Magic Mark and Soi Phet, who won divisions of the Brubaker Stakes at Del Mar last month.
