Beulah's Fortune 6 pays $364K

Beulah Park's Fortune 6 wager was hit Tuesday for $364,589.50, a North American record payoff on a wager less than $1.

The Fortune 6 is a 25-cent pick six wager in which the jackpot carries over until there is a single ticket containing all six winners. The current jackpot began building on Nov. 29 last year. Beulah received permission from the Ohio Racing Commission to carry over the jackpot from the conclusion of its fall meeting on Dec. 22 to the beginning on the winter-spring meeting here on Jan. 6.

Tuesday's winning ticket was purchased through Xpressbet, an Internet betting site run by Magna Entertainment Corp., according to Beulah Park officials. Tuesday's card began with a Fortune 6 carryover in excess of $301,000, and more than $82,254 was wagered on the bet.

The first five winners in Tuesday's Fortune 6 sequence returned $17.80, $27.40, $19, $16.40, and $21.60 - and after the parade of longshots, three of the 10 runners in the wager's final leg were still covered on single live tickets. The other seven horses had multiple tickets alive to them and would not have resulted in a jackpot. However, when Manatee County ($35.20) scored a two-length victory under jockey Yuri Yaranga, the carryover was paid off to the lone winner.

The Fortune 6 wager began at Beulah last January.
