Beulah: Startin Something taking on older again

The 3-year-old Startin Something will try to make her third attempt against her elders a winning one in the $50,000 Bobby Bricker Memorial at Beulah Park on Saturday. The 1 1/16-mile race is for Ohio-bred fillies and mares.

Trained by Tim Hamm, Startin Something was Ohio's champion 2-year-old filly last season. This year she has faced older fillies and mares at Thistledown in the Classen Memorial April 30, and in her most recent race, which came in an optional claimer Nov. 2.

Startin Something finished fourth in the Classen behind Indian Ink, Derby Day Storm, and Gathering Dreams. All three are entered in the Bricker. She was beaten three-quarters of a length in her last start off a three-month layoff.

Startin Something earned her best Beyer Figure in that event, and the stretch out to a 1 1/16 miles should be to her liking, as 3 of her 6 victories have come at the distance. Rafael Mojica will ride for the first time.
