Beulah: 'Roses' comes from far back


Ready for Roses ($4) rallied from more than 16 lengths back and got up in the final stride to score a neck victory over pacesetter Go Johnny Go in the $75,000 Best of Ohio Endurance, the feature among five statebred stakes on the Best of Ohio program at Beulah Park.

Irwin Rosendo rode 3-year-old gelding Ready for Roses to his second straight stakes win over older rivals in the 1 1/4-mile Endurance, and his fourth career win in nine starts.

Two horses were repeat winners from 2004's Best of Ohio program. Ben's Reflection ($4) took the lead in midstretch and drew off for an easy four-length win in the $50,000 Sprint. Whitewater Way ($24.60) overcame a wide trip under Luis Martinez Jr. and rallied to score a 1 3/4-length victory over Barnsy in the $50,000 Distaff.

In the other stakes:

Cryptoville ($33) made up six lengths in the final furlong and collared 1-2 favorite Lillians Choice at the wire to score a neck victory in the $60,000 John Galbreath Memorial for 2-year-old fillies, and Dinner Choice ($12.60) outdueled 3-5 favorite Acts Like a King by a neck in the $60,000 Juvenile.

The pick five consisting of the Best of Ohio races went unhit, paying $447.80 for four winners on a $2 ticket.
