Beulah Park: 'Watch Me' in Ohio Freshman

GROVE CITY, Ohio - All eyes will be on Watch Me Fire when he heads a field of seven Ohio-accredited 2-year-olds in the $40,000 1 1/16-mile Ohio Freshman Stakes at Beulah Park on Sunday.

Watch Me Fire most recently finished second after setting a hot pace as the 6-5 favorite in the $75,000 Best of Ohio Juvenile Championship at Sunday's distance on Oct. 8. Trained by Bill Napier, he has a record of 2-2-0 from eight starts, including a victory in the Loyalty Stakes at Thistledown in August.

Watch Me Fire, a son of Torcher, has been facing much tougher competition in his last several starts and is the one to beat in the Freshman. Rico Flores has the call aboard Watch Me Fire, who carries 113 pounds under the allowance conditions of the race.

Mercer's Launch, the lone filly in the Freshman, is the only other multiple winner in the race as well as the only other stakes winner. She most recently finished third after setting the pace in the 1 1/16-mile Galbreath Stakes here on Nov. 4.

Trainer Jeff Williams adds blinkers as well as lasix for the first time on Sunday. Edgar Donaghey will be aboard Mercer's Launch for her owner-breeder Scioto Farm Supply Inc. She will carry 110 pounds.
