GROVE CITY, Ohio - Veteran jockey Jorge Guerra has been on a roll through the first month of the Beulah Park winter-spring meeting and holds a 22-16 lead over Rex Stokes III as he goes for his first riding title here.

Stokes, who ranked among the leading apprentice riders in the nation last year, has adjusted well to his role as a journeyman rider.

Michael Wright and Huber Villa-Gomez are tied for third in the standings with 15 wins each. This is Villa-Gomez's first meet here. Perry Ouzts, who won the fall meet title here and has won countless other titles both here and at River Downs over the past three decades, is another win back in fifth.

The trainer race is even more wide open. Jake Radosevich and Jim Tracy are tied at the top with five wins each. Ten trainers are tied for second with four wins.

* The racing surface has been very deep and has produced slow times throughout the meet after the addition of tons of sand during a three-week break between meets, from late December through opening day, Jan. 11.
