Beulah Park: Freshman looks like a two-horse race

Deniro’s Saint will try to repeat her performance of two weeks ago when she attempts to defeat a compact field of Ohio-accredited 2-year-olds in the $50,000 Ohio Freshman at Beulah Park on Saturday.

Trained by Joe Faulkner, Deniro’s Saint destroyed a field of Ohio-accredited 2-year-old fillies by 24 lengths in the Glacial Princess at Beulah on Nov. 3. That victory was at the same six-furlong distance as the Ohio Freshman.

Deniro’s Saint won her maiden by seven lengths on Sept. 26 at Thistledown over a sloppy track. The gray or roan filly led from start to finish in that six-furlong race. In her next out on Oct. 12, Deniro’s Saint finished second in the Best of Ohio J.W. Galbreath going a mile and a sixteenth at Thistledown. She led briefly in that race before finishing second, beaten 4 3/4 lengths. The Galbreath is Deniro’s Saint’s only attempt at two turns.

Victor Urieta-Moran has ridden Deniro’s Saint in each of her five starts and will travel in to ride on Saturday.

Rip n’ Run won his only start by 10 lengths July 25 at River Downs when sent off as the 3-2 favorite. Rip n’ Run led from start to finish in that race and should be on or near the lead in the Freshman.

Perry Ouzts retains the mount.
