Beulah cancels another card

Beulah Park canceled its Tuesday live racing card but planned to resume racing on Wednesday with drastically reduced purses, the general manager of the track said on Monday.

The Tuesday cancellation was the third card to be called off since Beulah opened on May 14. Track officials have canceled the cards because of an ongoing dispute with horsemen over simulcast approvals.

Mike Weiss, the general manager of Beulah, said that purses will be cut 45 percent for the Wednesday card. The track's simulcast signal that day will not be distributed to any out-of-state betting sites, because track officials refuse to accept the terms laid out by horsemen as a condition of their approval, Weiss said. Negotiations are ongoing.

"We're going to let the horsemen squeak out a living as best we can and give our fans something," Weiss said.
