Beulah cancels again

Beulah Park canceled racing for the third time in as many racing days Tuesday after heavy thunderstorms came through the Columbus, Ohio, area Tuesday morning, dropping up to three inches of rain. Beulah had also canceled its last four races Saturday as the temperature rose and the track began to thaw, and lost its full card on Monday as the temperature remained unseasonably warm and the track continued to thaw and became uneven. Beulah was dark on Sunday.

"It is just saturated with water," Joe Deluca, a track steward who is also in charge of track maintenance at Beulah Park, said on Tuesday. "It has thawed out, but until the rain slows and it drains a bit, we can't get any equipment on the track to do anything with it.

"We should be able to get out this afternoon, I hope, and have it ready for Wednesday."

Rain was also forecast for Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning.

A new surface was installed during the break between the fall meet and the winter-spring meet that began Jan. 7 after three days of racing were lost in December because of the track condition.
