The Beter Man Can wins

The Beter Man Can, E.J. Perrodin up, wins the $75,000 Battler Star Handicap for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds Sunday at Fair Grounds Race Course.

The Beter Man Can returned to her winning ways, dominating a field of Louisiana-bred 3-year-old fillies in the $75,000 . The victory clinched The Beter Man Can's standing as the top 3-year-old Louisiana-bred filly. In the Battle Star, she trounced the fillies who had finished ahead of her in the Louisiana Champions Day Lassie - Equestrian Girls, Indigo Girl, and Forty Babes.

Ridden with supreme confidence by Elvis Perrodin, The Beter Man Can was reserved early toward the back of the field as Forty Babes, Shady Caller, and Maid in China battled through a quarter-mile in 21.85 seconds and a half in 45.83 over a track listed as good.

Turning for home, Shady Caller and Maid in China disputed the lead, with Doc's Fourth Girl moving into contention and The Beter Man Can moving fastest of all along the inside. Perrodin was forced to take her up in the stretch when Robby Albarado closed a hole on the rail aboard Made in China. Perrodin swung The Beter Man outside for room, and she rallied to win by 7 1/4 lengths in 1:11.02 for the six furlongs. Maid in China held off a rally from My Foriels On for second with Equestrian Girls fourth. The Beter Man Can paid $4.
