Bertrando colt leads Barretts session

The stakes-winning Bertrando colt Leesider led early selling Tuesday afternoon at the Barretts June auction of 2-year-olds and racing-age horses.

The 4-year-old Leesider sold for $40,000 as Hip No. 6 at the auction in Pomona, Calif. Val-U-Chem Inc. bought the son of the Storm Cat mare Sweet Paradise.

Mary Knight, agent, consigned the dark bay or brown colt, who is the first stakes-performer for his dam and was the session-leading horse at 5 p.m. Eastern time.

Knight also sold the top filly by that hour. That was Hip No. 20, Series of Dreams, a 3-year-old Aptitude filly who sold for $18,000 to dissolve a partnership. Annabelle Stute made the purchase.

Series of Dreams is unplaced in two starts so far but is a half-sister to five stakes-winners. The bay filly is out of Here's Lookn Adder, a Superbity mare who set a 56.40-second track record for five furlongs at Les Bois Park in 1987.

The sale was still under way at 5 p.m.
