Berry's Pride tops Little Ones

MUSKEGON, Mich. - Berry's Pride, a winner in his only Michigan start, was installed as the 5-2 favorite over eight rivals in Tuesday's $50,000 Little Ones Stakes at Great Lakes Downs. The six-furlong Little Ones is the first stakes on the local calendar for statebred 2-year-old colts and geldings.

Berry's Pride, owned and trained by Laura Jackson, began his career at the Keeneland meet, finishing fifth and fourth in his two starts. He won his maiden here in handy fashion on July 11 under jockey Ricardo Barrios, who retains the mount for the Little Ones. Jackson and her husband, James, bred the Millennium Wind colt.

Jackson also entered Hot Chili and the maiden Hooched Express.

Gamble on the Dew, one of three entrants from the Richard Rettele barn, will try to break his case of seconditis. The Jim Griffin-owned Intermediary gelding has three runner-up finishes from three starts. Mike Allen returns in the irons. Rettele also entered the maiden Native Britches and the first-time starter Curpico.
