Tepin, a daughter of Bernstein, won an Eclipse Award for the second consecutive year.

The only stallion represented as both the sire and broodmare sire of an Eclipse Award champion on Saturday night was the late Bernstein, who died in the fall of 2011 at just 14 following complications from colic.

The penultimate crop for the Castleton Lyons stallion included Tepin, who earned her second Eclipse as champion turf female following a season in which she won Grade 1 events in three different countries, including the Queen Anne Stakes at the renowned Royal Ascot meeting. Tepin earned her first Eclipse in 2015, when her two Grade 1 victories over males included the Breeders’ Cup Mile.

Bernstein’s daughter Lucky to Be Me produced Champagne Room, who captured the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies to lock up her divisional Eclipse.

Bernstein’s other standouts posthumously include French classic winner Karakontie, who won the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Mile before being defeated by Tepin in the 2015 edition of that race.
