Bernardini works for Travers

Preakness and Jim Dandy winner Bernardini completed preparations for his start in Saturday's $1 million Travers Stakes by breezing an easy five furlongs in 1:02.12 Tuesday morning at Saratoga.

With exercise rider Simon Harris aboard, Bernardini went in fractions of 13.08 seconds, 25.91, 38.00, 50.12, and galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.36. He pulled up seven furlongs in 1:28.39. It was Bernardini's third and final move in between his nine-length win in the Jim Dandy and the Travers.

"It looked like he worked really good this morning, looked like he was just galloping down the lane," said trainer Tom Albertrani, who moved the work up from Wednesday to beat any potential wet weather. "There was a slight chance of rain tonight and I'd just rather not get caught off guard, so we just did it today incase the weather got bad for tomorrow."

Post positions for the Travers will be drawn on Wednesday at 11:10 a.m. in the Saratoga paddock.
