Berg gets two winners

Canterbury regulars were treated with a blast from the past when trainer Harvey Berg sent out two winners last weekend.

On Friday night, Berg saddled Forty Passes ($21.80) in the sixth race and the 6-year old mare circled the field from last to win by more than two lengths under Juan Rivera. The next day, Berg sent over Royalnregal Dreams ($28.60), the second-longest price in the field of seven and watched her narrowly prevail under rider Alberto Pusac. Berg had not won a race at Canterbury since 1992.

Derek Bell demonstrated some of the skill that helped him capture four riding titles at Canterbury Park on Sunday, winning two races on the card. Bell captured the nightcap on Elementary My Dear for trainer Mac Robertson and the fifth race aboard Minn E Scat for trainer Gary Scherer. First-time starter Minn E Scat flipped in the chute as she approached the track from the paddock and in the ensuing ruckus lost her bridle. Some quick work by Bell and trainer Troy Bethke saw the filly quickly collected and re-equipped for the race. Minn E Scat prevailed by a length in a maiden special weight contest for Minnesota-breds.
