Bent Attorney pulls away in Rainbow Connection

FORT ERIE, Ontario - Bent Attorney took command in the stretch and drew off to a 3 3/4-length win in the at Fort Erie on Sunday. Scheduled for the turf, the five-furlong event for Ontario-sired fillies and mares was moved to the dirt after heavy rains Saturday night.

Bent Attorney ($3.80), a 6-year-old mare by Crown Attorney, was fifth in last year's Rainbow Connection, and trainer Don MacRae blamed her performance that day on the soft turf.

"If they had kept the race on the turf today, we would have scratched as she just cannot handle the soft going," MacRae said. "Luckily for us, the move to the dirt was exactly what we needed, and once we cleared Chocolateforlunch turning for home, we were fairly certain that she would not be caught."

Longshot Sans Sousi rallied from midfield to finish second. Chocolateforlunch led the way into the turn but was not able to match the winner and faded to third in the stretch.

Dash It Dreamer had brief speed, faded, and trailed the field of six home.

Bent Attorney completed the distance in 56.77 seconds on a fast track.
