ELMONT, N.Y. - When 24-1 shot Smokey Brown rallied past 2-1 favorite Gridiron Great in deep stretch of Wednesday’s 10th race at Belmont, it triggered a $539,765 pick six carryover into Thursday’s card.

Thursday’s pick six will start in race 5 - the $100,000 Spite the Devil Stakes for New York-breds - of the 10-race card and include five turf races.

The pick six was not hit either Saturday or Sunday, creating a $176,813 carryover into Wednesday’s program. An additional $638,095 was wagered into the pool on Wednesday.

Heading into the final leg of Wednesday’s pick six, half of the field was covered. Gridiron Great, the 2-1 favorite, was covered to the tune of $134,941 - to four winning tickets - and he took the lead turning for home. But, Gridiron Great couldn’t hold off Smokey Brown and apprentice Angel Arroyo. It was the third win of the meet for trainer John Toscano.

Those who correctly selected five of six in the pick six received $10,081.

The sequence of 4-4-8-3-8-9 consisted of Folk Singer ($9.20), Desert Bliss ($10.80), Mah Jong Maddnes ($26.20), Mariel N Kathy ($7.20) Crackerjack Jones ($18.80), and Smokey Brown ($50.50).
