Belmont Park: Saratoga Snacks to run in Morrissey and Forego

The talented New York-bred Saratoga Snacks, owned by soon-to-be-inducted Hall of Fame football coach Bill Parcells, will be pointed to a pair of sprint stakes at Saratoga, trainer Gary Sciacca said.

Sciacca’s goal is the Grade 1 Forego on Aug. 31, with a likely prep coming in the John Morrissey Stakes on Aug. 1. The Morrissey, restricted to New York-breds, is run two days before Parcells is inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It also sets up a meeting between Saratoga Snacks and Saginaw, last year’s Morrissey winner who has won 14 of his last 17 races. One of Saginaw’s three losses in that span came to Saratoga Snacks in the Alex M. Robb Handicap going two turns over the inner track.

Saratoga Snacks made a successful 4-year-old debut winning the Shy Groom Stakes at Belmont Park going seven furlongs June 30, his first start in six months.

“I’d rather go in a Grade 1 at a mile, but we don’t have that up there,” Sciacca said. “He’s doing great, came out of the race super.”
