Retreive earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 93 for his allowance win last Friday.

ELMONT, N.Y. - Retreive, who won a first-level allowance race by 3 3/4 lengths at Belmont Park on Friday, will likely point to the Grade 2, $400,000 Woody Stephens Stakes here on Belmont Stakes Day, trainer Jeremiah Englehart said.

Retreive, who was favored against Verrazano when Verrazano won his debut at Gulfstream on New Year’s Day, won Friday’s race by 3 3/4 lengths and covered six furlongs in 1:08.87. He earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 93.

“I was obviously pretty pleased after the race, and watching the replay the way he did it was nice,” Englehart said. “You could see after that half-mile clip he just exploded going five-eighths and into the finish.”

Though his allowance win was at six furlongs, Retreive did win a maiden race at Gulfstream going the Woody Stephens distance of seven furlongs by 8 3/4 lengths under Javier Castellano.

“In his maiden race, he went 44 and change to the half, and Javier said he never asked him down the lane,” Englehart said. “He kind of opened up and galloped out. The distance will be okay.”

◗ Winning Cause, winner of the Lexington Stakes at Keeneland on April 20, worked four furlongs in 49.03 over the Oklahoma training track at Saratoga on Monday. He is being pointed to the Marine Stakes at Woodbine on May 26, trainer Todd Pletcher said.
