ELMONT, N.Y. – Two-year-olds will be showcased in the Grade 1 Champagne on Oct. 5, and on Monday, two of the top contenders for that race put in workouts.

Honor Code, a 4 1/2-length maiden winner at Saratoga, went five furlongs 1:01.54 in company with the 3-year-old maiden Secret Bid. Honor Code got his final quarter in 24.31 seconds and had a useful gallop-out, going six furlongs in 1:14.28 and seven-eighths in 1:29.10. Trainer Shug McGaughey said he had Honor Code work in company because he put in a relatively slow work last week by himself.

On the training track, Havana, a 2 3/4-length winner of his debut at Saratoga on Aug. 23, went five furlongs in 1:00.58, going his first three furlongs in 35.90 and his last quarter in 24.68 under Velazquez. He galloped out six furlongs in 1:14.18 and seven furlongs in 1:28.60.

Pletcher worked several 2-year-olds Monday for next Sunday’s pair of Grade 2 sprint stakes, the Futurity for males and the Matron for fillies.

Corfu, winner of the Saratoga Special, and Sound of Freedom, a three-length maiden winner in his second start, went a half-mile in 48.29 seconds for the Futurity.

Sweet Whiskey, fourth in the Grade 1 Spinaway, went a half-mile by herself in 49.50, while Cynical Storm, a debut winner at Saratoga, went four furlongs in 49.14 in company with Stopchargingmaria, who is slated for the Grade 1 Frizette on Oct. 5.
