One Giant Step leaps over the fallen Slaney Rock in the William Entenmann Stakes.

In the first race on the card, Demonstrative ($23.60) galloped to a seven-length victory in the $50,000 William Entenmann Steeplechase Stakes under jockey Robert Walsh.

One Giant Step rallied from last to get second by 3 1/4 lengths over 2-1 favorite All Together.

Demonstrative, a 4-year-old gelding owned by Mrs. George Orhstrom Jr. and trained by Richard Valentine, won for the fourth time in seven career steeplechase starts. He was coming off a third-place finish behind Complete Zen and All Together in the National Hunt Cup in May. Complete Zen finished fifth in this spot.

Slaney Rock, part of the pace, fell over the 10th fence, but neither he nor rider Bernard Dalton appeared to suffer any serious injuries. Dalton was taken to First Aid, where he was examined and released. Slaney Rock was vanned off, but New York Racing Association veterinarians did not believe he had any significant issue.

Good Request was pulled up early in the race and was diagnosed as being lame in his left foreleg.
