Belmont Park: $251,315 pick-six carryover awaits Thursday card
Email
ELMONT, N.Y. – An otherwise mundane Thursday card at Belmont Park got much more interesting when no one hit the pick six Sunday, resulting in a carryover of $251,315 entering Thursday’s program.
Belmont is dark Wednesday, normally a racing day, as it will close out its spring/summer meeting with a four-day race week before heading to Saratoga, which opens July 20.
There was a carryover of $62,392 entering Sunday’s card and an additional $331,450 was wagered into the pool.
Most tickets were dead after the first two legs, which were won by Wishful Tomcat ($21) and Wise Choice ($45). Favorites won the next two legs – Maui Mark ($6.70) and Darwin Award ($3.70) – before La Cloche ($9.80) took the Voodoo Dancer Stakes.
There was one live ticket each to three horses going into the nightcap, but none were to Hey Babe, who rallied widest of all under Rosie Napravnik to win and return $10.40.
The consolation payout (5 of 6) was $575.
Thursday’s pick-six sequence, which begins with race 4, includes four turf races. There are three maiden-claiming events in the sequence, and four maiden races overall.
Best Bets
Any of LOGAN STREET's last three races at Gulfstream are good enough to overhaul these, the latest against 1-2 Big John B in a richer "beaten" claimer; good spot for first local outing. CHARDSEY rallied smartly from the back of the pack to be a clear second behind front-running Yo Blue under these conditions May 5; having a recent race over the course can't hurt. BARZINI and QUIET DANGER come off wire-to-wire maiden wins and could conceivably cancel themselves out battling for the lead.
