Belmont: Kenneally picks up Anstu horses

ELMONT, N.Y. - Owners Anita and Stuart Subotnick have transferred a dozen horses from Todd Pletcher to Eddie Kenneally, who will keep a string of horses in New York on a year-round basis.

The Subotnicks, who race under the moniker Anstu Stables, were among the first clients of Pletcher’s when the trainer went out on his own in 1996. Together they campaigned stakes winners Balto Star, Friendly Island, Irving’s Baby, Ibboyee, Mellow Roll and, most recently, Bay Park Boy.

Kenneally said he was already planning to leave a string of horses in New York on a year-round basis before the opportunity to train for the Subotnick’s came along.

“Earlier in the year we talked about leaving some horses and try to avail us of some of the additional purse money being offered,” Kenneally said.

Kenneally currently has 20 horses at Belmont Park. He hopes to have 30 based here during the winter.

Kenneally is a regular at Saratoga, where this summer he won 3 races from 26 starters. He is currently 1 for 10 at Belmont with that win coming with One Note Samba, a horse he ran for Anstu.

On Sunday, Kenneally will send out Select Cat for Anstu in the Grade 3 Tempted.
