Belmont: Genuine Devotion looks wide open

ELMONT, N.Y. - The $85,000 Genuine Devotion, a six-furlong race on the turf that goes as race 6 on Saturday's Belmont Park card, drew a full field that lacks a standout.

Trainer Graham Motion sends out Sharnberry, who cuts back in distance after three tries at a mile or further.

Whipshaw City drops from a fifth-place finish in the Grade 1 Madison going seven furlongs on synthetic, into a six-furlong turf sprint. She went 2 for 2 at a mile at Gulfstream Park during the winter meet.

Sunlight Sonata will be making her first start since last August, when she finished third in the Lucy Scribner Stakes at Saratoga.

Trainer Jimmy Toner said Sunlight Sonata “came up with some issues” after that race that forced him to stop on her. He said she has worked extremely well leading up to this, including a five-furlong move in 59.60 seconds.
