Belmont: Dominguez will ride Big Drama in Vosburgh, BC Sprint

Email

Ramon Dominguez has given trainer David Fawkes a two-race commitment aboard sprint champion Big Drama. Those two races are Saturday’s Grade 1, $350,000 Vosburgh Invitational followed by the Breeders’ Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5.

Last year, Big Drama was ridden by Eibar Coa, who was injured earlier this year in a spill at Gulfstream Park. Daniel Centeno rode Big Drama in his 2 1/4-length victory in the Whippleton Stakes at Calder on Sept. 4.

Big Drama was scheduled to work at Calder on Saturday and ship to New York next week.

Fawkes also plans to run Apriority, the runner-up in the Grade 1 Carter in April, in the Vosburgh. On Friday, Apriority worked five furlongs in 1:00.75 at Aqueduct.

At Belmont Friday, Trappe Shot worked four furlongs in 48.44 seconds over the training track. He went his first quarter in 24.09 seconds and galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.25.

A field of 10 is expected for the Vosburgh, including Calibrachoa, Dark Thunder, Euroears, Force Freeze, Hamazing Destiny, Justin Phillip, and Sunrise Smarty.
