Beausox filly to beat in stakes

EDMONTON, Alberta - Beausox, who is undefeated in two outings, will head a full field of 10 in the $30,000 Princess Margaret for 2-year-old fillies Sunday at Northlands Park.

Trained by Dale Saunders, Beausox has scored three-length and 4 3/4-length victories under Quincy Welch, who retains the mount for this six-furlong feature.

Trainer Sid Gray, who sent out the British Columbia-bred Dance Me Free to win the Edmonton Juvenile at 35-l here Wednesday, will be aiming for a double in the season's first two added-money offerings for 2-year-olds. Gray has entered Sweet on You Too, who will be ridden by Stephan Heiler.

With starting preference going to maiden special and $20,000 maiden claiming winners, Sweet on You Too and Miss Prestissimo won a shake for the last two berths in the starting gate for fillies who had won for a $15,000 price.

In addition to Beausox, Irish Intrigue, Sly Lady, Sweet Monarch, Sundown Meg, and Swing in Satin also defeated straight maidens.

Irish Intrigue, trained by Rod Heggie, went wire-to-wire over 3 1/2 furlongs in her only start.

Swing in Satin, owned by Red Ron Farm Farm and trained by Red Smith, appears to be a strong contender. The filly returns from Assiniboia Downs, where she finished third in the Debutante last Sunday. Peter Wong will ride Swing in Satin, who drew the No. 10 post.

Sweet Monarch also had a show finish behind Swing in Satin and Dance Me Free before tallying at

5 1/2 furlongs. She will start from post 5 under Richard Hamel.
