Baze pulls within two of Pincay


SAN MATEO, Calif. -– Russell Baze won Sunday’s first two races at Bay Meadows to bring his career victory total to 9,528 and pull within two of Laffit Pincay Jr.’s mark of 9,530.

Baze went wire to wire in the first race, winning aboard Playing’r Song ($5). He came from last to win the second aboard Candi’s Double ($7.40). Jerry Hollendorfer trained both runners. Neither was favored.

Baze finished sixth aboard 7-1 shot Working Good in the sixth, third aboard favored Sea Harbor in the seventh, second aboard favored Marathon Mom in the eighth, and third aboard favored Iza Big Star in the ninth.

Baze has six mounts, including three morning-line favorites, when racing resumes at Bay Meadows Wednesday.
