Bay Meadows: Uppity Kitty by a nose

Email

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Uppity Kitty ($8.40) opened a lead in the stretch and held on to win a three-way photo over Quanah County and Go Ask Daisy in the $63,400 Courtship Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Bay Meadows.

Uppity Kitty sat behind pacesetting Absolute Nectar down the backstretch, edged closer on the turn, and opened a clear lead at the eighth pole in the six-furlong race.

At the wire, Uppity Kitty was a nose in front of Quanah County, who was, in turn, a nose in front of Go Ask Daisy. The winning time was 1:11.69.

"We kinda went light on her after Del Mar because she lost some weight after running three times at Del Mar," winning trainer Jeff Bonde said. "We planned to go in the Barretts Stakes at Fairplex, but passed that for this.

"She gives you a good kick into the lane, but she does get late. We'll figure her out, but she seems like a sprinter now."

Uppity Kitty, second in her debut to division leader Halfbridled, earned $33,700 to lift her career earnings to $78,780 with two wins, a second and a third in four starts.
