Bay Meadows: Sirpa wins Pacifica

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Benefiting from a perfect stalking trip, Sirpa ($6.60) scored a five-length victory in the $60,200 Pacifica Handicap.

Jockey Jason Lumpkins rated Sirpa off dueling leaders San Nicholas and Rio's Chase. He moved three wide past the leaders heading into the stretch and pulled away through the lane in the 1 1/16-mile race to finish in 1:43.59.

Sirpa earned $33,350, lifting his career total to $184,680 with five wins in 21 starts. "He likes to lay just off them, and he got a perfect trip," winning trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said.

* Jockey Russell Baze, nearing 8,000 victories, was two wins shy of the mark after the four races Saturday, with three mount left on the card. He is shooting to become only the fourth jockey to win 8,000 races, along with Laffit Pincay Jr., Bill Shoemaker, and Pat Day.
