Bay Meadows: Sea of Pleasure surges

Sea of Pleasure ($2.60) showed a new dimension in winning the $59,530 Sophomore Sprint at Bay Meadows.

Sea of Pleasure, who had been on the lead in each of his three starts, found himself in second as Run Brother Ron rushed past him down the backstretch, leading by three at the half-mile pole and maintaining a 2 1/2-length lead at the quarter pole.

Sea of Pleasure, who relaxed nicely under Russell Baze, put the pressure on, taking the lead at the eighth pole as Run Brother Ron faltered, and pulled clear to win by three lengths in 1:09.72. Topper Stopper closed for second with longshot Vadheim winning a three-way photo for third.

"It's good to know he can come off the pace," said winning trainer Gary Stute.

An Illinois-bred son of Sea of Secrets, Sea of Pleasure earned $33,900 for his first stakes win. He has earned $98,440 with 3 wins in 4 starts for owners Steve and Terry Burnett, Bill Leutzinger, Bruno DeJulio, and Sergio Bohan.
