Barroby takes two shots

VANCOUVER, British Columbia - Trainer Harold Barroby appears to have two very good chances to win the feature race at Hastings Saturday. Barroby has entered Olympic Dawn and Africameetsindia in a $25,000 claiming race for 3-year-old fillies that goes as the 10th race. The 6 1/2-furlong race drew six horses.

With Anderson Ward aboard, Africameetsindia made a strong move from off the pace to win a six-furlong race for a $25,000 claiming price May 5. With all the speed signed on in Saturday's race, she appears to have a very good chance of repeating. She also figures to move forward in her second start of the year. Ward retains the mount.

Olympic Dawn won her debut in a $15,000 maiden claiming race going 3 1/2 furlongs last October. In her second start she forced the pace and held on well to finish third in the same race Africameetsindia won. There is plenty of other speed in this race, so it wouldn't be surprising to see Olympic Dawn's jockey, Dave Wilson, try and put her in a stalking position early.

Sophisticated Star did a very good job of setting up her stablemate Napa to win the Emerald Downs Handicap May 20. Used as a rabbit, Sophisticated Star forced fast fractions before fading to last. In her previous start she led from start to finish in a $15,000 claiming race April 29 and was claimed by Dino Condilenios.

Mocha Time is looking to rebound after finishing fourth as the favorite in the Africameetsindia race.

Belle of Rainier and Singing Along are both making their second starts following successful debuts. Belle of Rainier won a $25,000 maiden claiming race May 5 and Singing Along beat $15,000 maidens May 12.
