Hip No. 102, a Rock Hard Ten-Barbara Orr colt, works a 21.20-second quarter-mile at Pomona on Friday.

Thirteen juveniles clocked in 10-second works over an eighth-mile Friday at the Barretts March select 2-year-old auction's under-tack show.

That was the fastest time at the distance. The under-tack preview took place at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif., where the one-day auction also will take place Monday in the Hinds Pavilion.
Two of those fast one-furlong workers were by Wildcat Heir: Hip No. 8, a colt out of Conqueress from the family of Richman, and Hip No. 28, a Wildcat Heir-Hasty Appeal colt who is a half-brother to Kelly Leak and Dr. Park.

Also putting up 10-second works for a furlong were Hip No. 14, a Flashy Bull-Dream City filly; Hip No. 16, a Speightstown-Enjoy the Moment colt; Hip No. 31, a Broken Vow-Honorable Peace filly; Hip No. 32, a First Samurai-Hostility colt; Hip No. 63, a Tribal Rule-Prize Possession colt; Hip No. 67, a Bluegrass Cat-Racetothealtar colt; Hip No. 69, a Bellamy Road-Red Sonnet colt; Hip No. 80, an El Corredor-Society Gal colt who is a half-brother to Mona de Momma; Hip No. 87, a Too Much Bling-Surf Tide colt; Hip No. 96, a Congrats-White Ruffle colt; and Hip No. 98, a Pure Prize-Yes It's Royalty filly.

The preview's fastest quarter-mile work belonged to Hip No. 102, a Rock Hard Ten-Barbara Orr colt. He covered two furlongs in 21.2 seconds.

The timer display on the racetrack apron malfunctioned during the show, but the official Barretts summary of the workouts noted that the problem did not affect the electronic timing system.

The sale was to start at 7 p.m. local time, immediately after a 5 p.m. reception featuring the artist Fred Stone.
