Older sprinters will run for higher stakes purses at the Barretts Race Meet at the Los Angeles County Fair at Fairplex in September.The schedule was released Thursday for the 13-day meeting, which runs from Sept. 6-22. A majority of the 12 stakes, worth a collective $775,000, will be run for the same prize money as in 2012 and retain the same position on the track’s calendar.The most notable change was the Governor’s Cup over 6 1/2 furlongs on Sept. 18. The purse has been increased by $25,000, to $75,000, for 2013. In addition, purses in overnight races have been increased 5 percent from 2012.The richest races of the meeting, at $100,000 each, are the Barretts Debutante and Barretts Juvenile for 2-year-olds on Sept. 14-15 for sale graduates, and the Ralph Hinds Pomona Invitational on Sept. 22. The Barretts races are run over 6 1/2 furlongs. The Hinds is run at about 1 1/8 miles, the longest stakes of the meeting.First post time for the Barretts Race meeting will be 1 p.m. from Thursday through Sunday. Wednesday racing starts at 4 p.m. The race meeting coincides with the Los Angeles County Fair, which runs from Aug. 30 to Sept. 29.
