Barretts to auction off 81 yearlings at August sale

DEL MAR, Calif. – Barretts Sales will auction 81 yearlings at its August select yearling sale at Del Mar on Aug. 30, general manager Kim Lloyd told the California Horse Racing Board on Thursday.

But the number of hips at the Paddock Sale of horses of racing age July 23 has not been finalized, pending late additions, Lloyd said. Lloyd told the racing board that the number of horses for that sale has fluctuated from 13 to 30 and was 18 as of Thursday.

“We will work on it until the last minute,” he said.

The Paddock Sale is held after the racing program. A training preview of the 2-year-olds in the sale is scheduled for 10 a.m. Pacific on July 22.

The 2015 Paddock Sale at Del Mar had 29 horses go through the ring and 19 sell for an average of $38,342.

The Barretts fall sale of yearlings and horses of racing age will be held at the Los Angeles County Fairgrounds in Pomona, Calif., on Oct. 18. Lloyd said the sale will be expanded to include “some selected broodmares.”
