Barracuda Boy cruises in Durham Cup

Barracuda Boy ($10.40) shook loose on the lead and was never seriously challenged en route to a 5 1/4-length victory in Saturday's Grade 3, $150,400 at Woodbine.

The other front-runner in the Durham Cup, Roving Angel, was rated in a stalking position, enabling Barracuda Boy to set moderate fractions before drawing off in the stretch under Emma-Jayne Wilson.

"He broke sharp, put himself in his usual bowed-neck position, and relaxed for me," said Wilson. "As we hit the backside, I was very content with where I was sitting."

Sextet rallied three wide to finish a clear second, and Pellegrino wound up third in the six-horse field.

Kentucky shipper Gouldings Green, the 1-2 favorite, lagged far off the lead in a trailing position on the backstretch, before mounting a mild inside rally to finish a distant fourth.

It was the fifth consecutive win for Barracuda Boy, a streak that began in the spring with consecutive scores in a pair of $20,000 conditioned claimers. A 5-year-old gelding, Barracuda Boy completed the distance in a track record 1:50.49, earning $90,000 for Stronach Stable and trainer Nick Gonzalez.

With the majority of the show pool on Gouldings Green, large show payoffs of $8.30, $18, and $11 were realized on the top-three finishers.

* Legal Move ($3.50) dueled on the lead before kicking clear in the final furlong to take the supporting feature, the $126,200 Bull Page Stakes for Ontario-sired 2-year-olds. Jockey Patrick Husbands rode Legal Move, who ran six furlong in 1:11.41. Dancer's Bajan rallied to finish four lengths back in second, and Fudgethebottomline was third in the eight-horse field.
