Banke, O'Farrell elected to The Jockey Club board of stewards

Barbara Banke, owner of Stonestreet Stables, and Michael O’Farrell Jr., owner of Ocala Stud in Florida, have been elected to the board of stewards of The Jockey Club, the organization announced Wednesday.

Banke and O’Farrell were elected to fill the spots vacated by the expiration of the terms of Stella Thayer, owner of Tampa Bay Downs, and Peter S. Willmott, current chairman of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association.

Banke, who has been a member of The Jockey Club, has campaigned two Horses of the Year in Curlin and Rachel Alexandra. She also serves on the boards of the Breeders’ Cup, TOBA, and the National Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame.

O’Farrell also is on the boards of Breeders’ Cup and TOBA, along with the board of the Florida Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. He is chairman of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company, and his Ocala Stud has bred and sold more than 150 stakes winners.
