Ballroom Deputy preps for repeat try

Ballroom Deputy, the winner of the 2005 Maple Leaf Stakes, should be favored in Friday's headliner at Woodbine, a 1 1/16-mile allowance prep for this year's Maple Leaf on Nov. 11.

Ballroom Deputy has a second and four thirds in her five outings this year, all in stakes. Her best effort of the year may have come in the Feb. 23 Pippin Stakes at Oaklawn, where she finished second by a neck and earned a 91 Beyer Speed Figure.

Ballroom Dancer twice finished third here early in the meeting, in the Hill 'N' Dale and in the Ontario Matron Stakes. She hasn't started since the July 28 Ontario Matron and has been working regularly over Polytrack.

David Clark will ride Ballroom Deputy for trainer Josie Carroll.

Gold Fish, the lone 3-year-old in the lineup, was a fast-closing second against her own age group last time in the 1 1/16-mile La Lorgnette Stakes. She won a first-level allowance in the slop July 22 for trainer Tom O'Keefe, who has secured leading rider Emma Wilson for the mount.

Charming Ruckus captured the seven-furlong Jammed Lovely Stakes last fall, but is winless in six outings this year. She rallied belatedly for third most recently in a $100,000 optional claimer.

Turf specialist Foamy Water won a first-level allowance in June and is coming off a third-place finish in the 1 1/2-mile Flaming Page Stakes.

Foamy Water has worked twice on Polytrack, and many grass experts have won on Polytrack since it was unveiled here Aug. 30.

o Wake at Noon, the 2002 Canadian Horse of the Year, comes out of retirement to contest Friday's supporting feature, an $80,000 optional claimer.

A 9-year-old trained by Abraham Katryan, Wake at Noon is unraced since August 2005 and will compete with a $77,500 claiming price.

Twisted Wit, another multiple stakes winner, might be favored, even though he was recently far back in the seven-furlong Mt. Sassafras Stakes.

Ok Nothanksforaskn, who finished third by a neck last out in the Grade 3 B.C. Derby, is one of two 3-year-olds in the seven-horse field, along with Victoria's Boy.
