Balian keys Klesaris's big night

Trainer Steve Klesaris and rider Anna Napravnik had a lucrative night at Penn National, winning one of the three stakes on the card and running second in the two others.

They won the $75,000 Lyphard Stakes for 3-year-olds with Balian, who tracked the leaders from just off the pace to the second turn, moved up two wide, and beat odds-on favorite El Churruca home by a half-length. Brother Sly was another 3 1/2 lengths behind in third in the mile race on firm turf. Balian was timed in 1:36.14 and paid $9.

* Very Distinctive, a 16-1 shot trained by Stacy McMullin and ridden by Eriluis Vaz, won the $75,000 Dear Jane for 3-year-old fillies by 4 1/2 lengths over the Klesaris-trained and Napravnik-ridden Costal Solace.

The 3-5 favorite, Extra Sexy Psychic, fininshed another 1 3/4 lengths back in third with no excuse. Very Distinctive ran the mile on firm turf in 1:35.94 and paid $34.80.

* Jet Away Jane, the even-money choice ridden by Angel Rodriguez for trainer Tom Miller, won the $56,700 Day Lilly Stakes for fillies and mares. The margin was 1 3/4 lengths over the Klesaris-trained and Napravnik-ridden 8-5 shot, Dicey Gal. The winner ran the six furlongs in 1:09.22 and paid $4.
