Bai and Bai uncatchable

Bai and Bai ($8.20) rated nicely on the lead, opened up into the lane, and had enough left to hold off odds-on Victorina to win Saturday's $59,175 Muir Woods at Golden Gate Fields.

Hustled to the lead by jockey Roberto Gonzalez, Bai and Bai relaxed down the backstretch. As the field began to close on her approaching the quarter pole, she shook clear and opened a two-length lead into the stretch.

Victorina, under Russell Baze, cut into the lead but was three-quarters of a length back at the end of the 1 1/16-mile race, won in 1:42.71.

"We had a conditioning edge," said winning trainer Bill Delia, whose filly had not raced since Oct. 28.

Bai and Bai, a $3,200 yearling purchase, earned $36,300 to increase her career total to $295,848.
