Baffert invades to win Dipsea Trail

Into Reality ($6.40) sat just off favored Dixie Crisp early and pulled away when straightened into the lane to win the $50,625 Dipsea Trail for 3-year-old fillies at Golden Gate Fields.

Into Reality, trained by Bob Baffert, was coming off an April 14 maiden victory at Santa Anita. She defeated Hot Spell by 1 1/4 lengths in 1:09.67 for the six-furlong race. Dixie Crisp, Hot Spell's stablemate, was third another length back.

"Baffert gave me instructions this morning," winning jockey Juan Ochoa said. "He said if Dixie Crisp goes, use her as a target. I waited until the last minute, and when I asked her she gave me everything she had."

Baffert, who watched the race in Southern California, said: "It took her a while to break her maiden, but there are no easy spots down here, and she always seemed to run into a good filly. We've tried to get her to relax, but she has to be close. She loses interest if you take hold of her."

Into Reality, a $75,000 purchase at Ocala last March, is the first runner for owner Scott Dilworth, who has several yearlings and also has campaigned quarter horses. She earned $27,750 to lift her career earnings to $78,990 with 2 wins, 2 seconds, and 1 third in 6 starts.
